Megan McGranaghan is Manchester raised designer with ambition to work in luxury womenswear. Her recent Masters collection has come about from her from her own ideals revolving around women and fantasy which has lead her to a concept she feels incredibly strongly about: The idea of ageing has been ruined for a lot of women, older women feel they are of less value to society and younger women fear the day they expire in society’s eye; Yet aging is a part of life. That’s where the concept ‘Hag’ has been created. ‘Hag’ is about glorifying and idolising women who have been made invisible because of their age. Born from the designer’s strong love for feminism and escapism she imagines a world where a term such as ‘Hag’ could be rebranded. No longer an insult but instead an empowering symbol of rebellion and freedom from restrictive traditions for women of all ages. Using this collection the designer hopes to turn her own fear of ageing into excitement for the first wrinkle or grey hair that is to appear and hopefully encourage others to do so.
