Rhiannon Ankers is a soon to be graduate from Leeds Arts University, her graduate collection ‘Amser am de’ (Time for Tea) is a modernized whimsical take on her personal Welsh heritage, combining modern shapes and silhouettes with patterns and motifs seen in her Welsh background and how this art evolves and changes through time. The sculptural shapes seen within this collection are echoes of generational change from the craftsmanship of stone masonry to the art of sculpture and then perpetuated through fashion. From an early age she was surrounded by sculptures of the human figure and Arabesque lines, emphasizing the contours of the human form. This was the inspiration for the strong silhouettes and dramatic shapes. Throughout her university experience she has had the opportunity to further her sustainable outlook on fashion and making. Striving to reuse and repurpose before buying new. This approach is carried through to her final collection in both fabric and idea, this collection is about finding a balance of reinventing from past themes and producing something new and current. Rhiannon ankers is a sustainable focused designer who specializes in womenswear/unisex design. With a background in art and design, her creativity and artistic view create unique expressive pieces. Traditional shapes and silhouettes are juxtaposed with exaggerated costume design. Her pieces promote slow fashion and creating art pieces, she allows her themes to tie in also with childhood, with a playful nature to them. Her pieces tend to exaggerate the human form and add almost an illustrative effect to the clothing. She takes a lot of inspiration for silhouette from art and film, to create very theatrical design that explores a modern vision of contemporary, whimsical and artisan.
