By reimagining unisex fashion, I seek to create a space where individuals can express their unique identities without conforming to societal expectations. Through innovative designs and inclusive representation, my collection celebrates the diverse possibilities of masculinity while promoting acceptance and empowerment for all, regardless of gender. This exploration opens new avenues for self-expression and encourages a more inclusive understanding of masculinity in today's society. My inspiration stems from a street photo taken in 1980 in New York City by Amy Arbus. The photo captures the diversity and individuality of fashion in New York City during that era, reflecting a shift towards inclusivity and self-expression. It showcases how individuals embraced unique styles without being confined by societal expectations. This historical context has influenced my approach to fashion design, inspiring me to create clothing that transcends gender and age boundaries. The photo serves as a reminder that fashion should be inclusive and reflective of personal identity. I conducted extensive research on different fabrics and their properties to carefully select materials with similar colors but varying textures. This allowed me to compare how different textures influence the overall profile of a garment. By experimenting with different fabric thicknesses, from lightweight chiffon to heavy wool, I demonstrated how varying weights impact the silhouette and drape of the clothing. This attention to detail not only highlights the craftsmanship behind each piece but also emphasizes the endless possibilities inherent in every design. Overall, my MA collection celebrates the artistry of fashion design by showcasing how thoughtful material selection and meticulous construction techniques can bring out the best in each garment. It aims to create a space where fashion transcends rigid categories, promoting inclusivity and reflecting the true diversity of personal identity.
