Olivia’s final collection is an attempt to reconnect and rediscover her childhood admiration and idolisation of clothing. For the London-based designer, the industry too often feels overwhelmingly serious, leading to the existential question, “why am I doing this?” Playing with Randoms is a personal response to this question, the answer being simply, that clothes are fun! Or at least they used to be… Utilising and subverting recognisable fabrics and garments that are reminiscent of fast fashion and everyday dress in the 21st century, the collection evokes feelings of familiarity and nostalgia. The UGG, the Michael Kors ‘Voyager’, the Primark camo parka and the iconic sequin body-con all symbolise 8 year old Olivia’s epitome of Fashion and therefore serve as core references for the collection. Think of getting dressed up to go to the corner shop with a quid in 2008.
