Olivia is a graduating Fashion BA (Hons) student from the Edinburgh College of Art with an ever- growing fascination for high- end, modern, sustainable design: specialising in womenswear and textile design. Her fascination for innovative knitwear, unexpected colour combinations, creative cutting scale and silhouette all play an integral role in her overall design process. ‘Happiness from Within’ is a ‘Modern, Sports-Fusion’ interpreted through the lens of knitwear design. This collection offers a high fashion spin on sportswear with the desire to empower women. Much of the research is focused upon challenging the often-distorted view of society’s perception towards the female form and ‘perfectionism’; subverting elements of Victorian underwear, including the corset to become part of a contemporary, RTW collection. An over- arching theme is the designer’s personal journey with body image and her personal escape place: the gym and weightlifting. Thus, the celebration of all body types is a huge focus; highlighting the importance of the human body- its strength, flexibility, and individuality: a contrast to the stereotypical body attractiveness. Ultimately the collection combines innovative knitwear and exaggerated silhouettes, to embody a sense of comfort and functionality, juxtaposed with restriction, resulting in a capsule, timeless collection with garments designed to be adjustable and for layering, styled to the customer’s preference.
