As a menswear designer my inspiration sources commonly include subcultures (in this case casuals) as well as textile processes. Throughout my final major project I expressed my creativity through new and exciting textile process and techniques, while keeping my silhouettes commercial and wearable. Function is of key importance to me as a menswear designer alongside producing garments that are transeasonal, sustainable and of high quality. Social inspiration for this project stemmed from working-class culture, occupational identity and the craftsmanship displayed through blue collar roles. In turn, this lead me to experiment will traditional and contemporary weaving techniques in order to add a unique and personal touch to my garments. In terms of sustainability, my collection includes natural dyeing, use of damaged materials and zero waste textile processes; waste fabric from laser cutting is utilised as a new source of inspiration for development of another process or weaving pattern.
