Fashion is a veil easily bled through by our inner world. Inspired by her love of literature that weaves a thread connecting everything in her life, Sonia Stalmachova’s practice looks at the narratives we tell ourselves and how they leave traces on everything we touch. She looks at life interpreted through invisible words and their heavy outlines that reflect in the cave in the back of our minds, words that are like bricks, slowly building up a house, building up a prison. With her garments, she explores the weight of these daily narrations and how they are instrumental in the creation of our reality. In her graduate collection, every look is a chapter in the story of hysteria, of a woman driven to madness as she fights with her own eternal sentence. Cornered in shame, as she weeps and screams and laughs away the lost battles that became her occupation, who can claim her feelings a delusion? Nothing is a lie in the absence of truth.
