Amelia Augustyn is a polish born, London based fashion designer, specilising in womenswear and patchwork practice. Growing up in a countryside in Poland, nature has always been her source of inspiration which helped her grow a deep appreciation to its natural beauty. Her creative process is always influenced by the colors, textures and patterns she observed in nature. Taking inspiration from flowers and her heritage, Amelia wants to incorporate the traditional costumes of Poland to honour her culture and bring the elements of the folklore aesthetic into high fashion, while also paying a tribute to the common poppy, which is a national flower of Poland. Its intricate shape and colour bring the essence of her culture. In her creative process, Amelia wants to embrace sustainability through the practice of patchwork and fabric collage, which can tell stories, connect people to their roots and create a deeper connection with nature. Through exploration of textiles and 3D materials, she explores the richness of polish nature and embodies it into contemporary fashion to value the natural heritage and show her artistic expression. In Amelia’s final collection titled “Poppy Field”, which is a love letter to her home country, she takes images of the polish countryside and transforms them into fabric collages made from discarded fabrics to prove that sustainability in fashion can be done in a creative and fun way and bring clothing to life.
