Tales of the past, stories of people's lives intrigue me. After researching into Lucky Luciano, the head of the Italian Mafia in the early 20th century, I came across a part of his life that truly captivated my imagination. Igea Lissino was a ballerina living in a gangster's world; she was the love of Lucky Luciano's life but sadly died at age 38. Her story was far from a fairy tale. My final major project focuses on telling Igea’s story, one that was overshadowed by Lucky Luciano’s success. By all accounts, being the girlfriend of a gangster is far from bliss. Serving as a homage to Igea's oppressed life, the collection's colour palette mirrors the metaphor of a flower blossoming, embodying the symbolic narrative of Igea's journey from shadows into the light. Creating a collection showcasing highly feminine eveningwear looks, accentuating the grace and strength inherent in Igea's story. In contrast, while Igea's life was overshadowed by Lucky Luciano's fame and temper, playing with men's tailoring, sourcing, and knitting feminine fabrics, creating contrast within the silhouettes and reclaiming lost power through material choices.
