My project is based on the juxtaposition between the craziness of “The Swinging Sixties” and traditional married life. The key focus on my grandparents who were wedded at the early age of 19 in 1961. Forming the body of my research I will be analysing silhouette, clothing styles and themes that run throughout when designing my final collection. Traditional sixties fashion styles will be used from my grandparents wedding album and family life photos contrasting with the fashion worn within the youth driven cultural revolution which emphasised modernity and fun-loving hedonism known as “The swinging sixties”. My project “Did the Sixties swing?” will focus on tailoring and smart sixties clothing with a mix of abstract shapes and silhouettes to make it more playful and fun and enable to create something new from conventional clothing styles from this decade. I hope this enables me to best capture the men’s and women’s fashion from my research while searching for new ways to fabricate this fun, playful collection.
