Samantha Lange is an emerging Venezuelan fashion designer, accessory designer, and stylist based in London, UK. Her work focuses on documenting the nostalgia of her upbringing in Caracas, Venezuela, leading to a process of rediscovery and cultural exploration. Blending these experiences with her journey as a young trans Latina immigrant, Lange creates a unique perspective that intertwines nostalgia, community, and culture. Specializing in upcycled fashion, 3D-printed accessories/jewelry, and integrating Venezuelan cultural references into prints and graphics, Lange's designs have a personal sense of storytelling. Her graduate collection, titled “Muñekita” (Spanish for “Dolly”), is a collaborative homage to her sisterhood within the trans community in London. Taking as muses her trans sisters, Lange uses documentation of their night outs to shape the narrative, silhouette development, and styling of the project. “Muñekita” is adorned with 3D-printed acrylic accessories inspired by Venezuelan religious imagery. The collection features the symbolism of a “Pelvic Orchid,” adding an ethereal tone that contrasts with its provocative elements. The collection explores reclaiming Venezuelan culture and themes of hyper femininity, hyper sexualization, sisterhood, and creating comfort in dressing trans women's bodies. It offers an intimate glimpse into a marginalized community, crafting creations from and for them. Lange continues to push these themes and her personal artistic style through zines, installations, graphic designs, and photoshoots, creating a cohesive sense of world-building around her creative direction and practice.
