Natasha Doble is a sustainably driven graduate from BA (Hons) Fashion Atelier who is focused on pattern cutting, bespoke tailoring and couture sewing. Her innovative graduate collection ‘Circular Seas’ explores zero-waste pattern cutting, with its realisation supported by bespoke tailoring knowledge and practice. Drawing focus from the Korean Haenyeo (traditional women free divers of Jeju, Korea), the collection reflects on womens’ resilience, strength in femininity and circular sustainability. The principle of zero-waste is that what is taken from the earth, is not more than can be given back. This collection draws on research from: Korean traditions and 'The Haenyeo’, with silhouettes inspired by western fashion, and sustainable practices that resonate within a circular system. Natasha advanced her pattern cutting skills during her graduate year to explore zero-waste practices, applying existing principles to create innovative approaches to garment development and manufacture. The materials selected for the collection are all single fibre weaves, with the emphasis that they can be fully recycled, re-enforcing the circular system that truly sustainable fashion must grow from. The focus of Natasha’s collection is to support sustainable fashion practices and promote this approach as a realistic proposal and benefit to the fashion industry as a whole.
