“Expendables” encapsulates my exploration of the functionality of military pattern cutting and fabrics, intertwined with a narrative that examines the rebellious spirit inherent in young men. The collection serves as a visual narrative, shedding light on the paradox of how governments deem young men expendable in times of war, yet they retain a resilient and defiant spirit. Through “Expendables,” I sought to capture this juxtaposition, blending the pragmatic elements of military-inspired design with an edgy and rebellious aesthetic. Functionality is at the forefront of my design ideology, and through drawing inspiration from military staples, each garment in the collection showcases both researched detail and utilitarian elements. These features are juxtaposed with rebellious accents and modern interpretations: blending of tradition and innovation. The aesthetic of “Expendables” is characterized by a fresh take on heritage menswear and military pattern cutting, with and rugged yet refined look. Each garment in the collection embodies an interpretation of menswear staples, through my own lens. Central to the collection is the utilization of waterproof fabrics. These fabrics are primarily from Halley Stevenson’s, an esteemed British mill renowned for its commitment to heritage craftsmanship, as well as repurposed Burberry gaberdine, and various deadstock materials. Additionally, select pieces have been waterproofed by myself. My fabric choices underscore my commitment to quality, sustainability as well as supporting and recognizing British heritage.
