‘Curated Living’ explores the belongings and possessions found in the home. I wanted to change the use and viewpoint people have of these mundane objects to create a sense of appreciation for them. Toothbrushes, cutlery, curtains, TV remote controls and vinyl records, are a few of the household objects I decided to base my collection around. I like to experiment with materials that are unconventional for fashion, bringing a sense of life to a collection but to also express how fashion can be more than a piece of clothing to cover the body. To me, it is a way of expressing a creative concept for the human form. I wanted my collection to have a ‘homely’ feel , to allow people to gain a sense of comfort when looking at or wearing the garments through the light colours and soft fabrics I’ve used. I also wanted it to give the wearer a level of confidence when wearing these unusual ‘things’ by also using contrasting bright, and dark colours as well as asymmetric sharp edges and cut outs. This collection is continuous and never ending, the ability to explore and transform anything that appears before me, I intend to experiment and continually develop this concept, to express the importance of creativity in our everyday lives and how we can do this by using ‘ordinary’ things we have and transforming it into something new, creating a feeling of joy by using and changing these objects that we all possess, ask giving a feeling of relatability to the wearer.
