My name is Beatriz and I am a sustainable maker and designer. I am deeply inspired by slow making, and my project explores how we can engage with these practices to form a more intentional relationship with our clothes. ‘Maximalising’ is about expressing yourself to the fullest by making the most of what you already have. I began my investigation by questioning the role that our wardrobes play in our lives, and by extension, the role of the fashion designer. As a result, I designed a collection which would be worn and loved beyond my degree. I used a variety of techniques to achieve this goal: co design, upcycling, and using waste from one of my favourite brands, Harris Tweed. It was crucial for me to be open minded throughout the project as my results were heavily dependent on what materials were available. I hope to support and inspire others in their journey to express themselves unapologetically through their clothes in a way that is sustainable for both people and planet.
