BFC Foundation Designer Trustee

Closing date: 20.05.2024

BFC is a not-for-profit organisation existing to further the interests of the British fashion industry and its designer businesses by harnessing and sharing collective knowledge, experience and resources of the sector. Formed in 1983, the BFC is funded by industry patrons, commercial sponsors, and the government including the Mayor of London and the ERDF. It leads the industry through creative influence and is strategically repositioning British fashion in the global fashion economy. In 2017, the BFC publicly announced its intention to significantly increase fundraising activities and raise £10 million over 10 years to support the next generation of talent in the fashion industry.

To help with this aim, the BFC established the BFC Foundation in 2019 to establish one central charitable vehicle within the BFC Group.

This is an exciting time to join the BFC Foundation. Since 2020, we have been committed to boosting the profile of the charity; developing the Global Patron Programme, growing our fundraising objectives and importantly, strengthening the governance. With this in mind, we are looking to bolster our Trustee Board further with the recruitment of a British Designer to join Andin Fonyonga, Pam Batty, Laura Strain, Caroline Rush and David Pemsel.

The designer-based Trustee will join other Trustees to guide and steer relevant actions of the Charity. They will be called upon based on their esteemed experience as a designer, brand owner and as someone who has benefitted from funding from the BFC charitable initiatives.

We are looking for applicants who have experience in the following areas:

  • Founder/Creative Director of a British Owned Fashion Brand who have actively traded for over 8+ years.
  • Has worked across both the British Fashion Industry and the wider, Global industry for 8+ years.
  • Has been a previous shortlist/winner of a BFC Foundation Grant.
  • Previously had or has a business which has global recognition and global retailer stockists.

Commitment:

Term of office: 3 years

  • The Trustee is welcome to join the breadth of events that take place throughout the year held by the BFC and the BFC Foundation; there will be at least 3 events each year that Trustees will be expected to attend (London based).
  • There will be between 3 and 4 in-person 1:5-2hr Trustee meetings per year. There will also be project-based work depending on priorities and strategy.
  • Remuneration: This is a voluntary position and as such does not pay a salary. Reasonable expenses are reimbursed.
