A Quality Control, or QA, Manager’s goal is to ensure that all products being produced by the brand they work for are fit for purpose and completed to a high standard. QAs monitor management systems throughout the production process, analysing data and providing reports on the product performance against certain criteria.
QA Managers could work in a head office, at an import or sourcing company, or in-house with a manufacturer.
The role can start from sourcing factories and ensuring that the factory complies with all recognised standards - like safe workplace for employees and environmental requirements for example. They need to ensure that a factory has completed audits and is regularly reviewed.
A QA manager will also check the textiles used, the way garments are constructed are fit for purpose and meet health and safety standards.
For example, Childrenswear have very strict guidelines for size of neck holes being big enough for a garment to come on and off easily, that any decoration or button is not easily removed to be a choking hazard.
They can cover all product types: womenswear, menswear, childrenswear, footwear, lingerie, and homeware. Strong organisational skills, experience reading data and producing reports are essential requirements.
