A wholesale manager can work for one brand in house. There are also Agencies that represent a number of brands at the same time so a wholesale manager can represent multiple brands. In both cases, the wholesale manager needs a deep understanding of each brand to be present the collections in detail.
olesale managers tend to spend a lot of time travelling to different trade shows and showrooms. They also visit stockists to check that stores are at the right level for the brand, the garments are being displayed well and to get to know more about the store and it’s customers.
There are no formal qualifications required for this position. It is possible to start as a shop assistant for a brand and get promoted within a company to the wholesale team. Agencies may take on assistants at busy periods which would be another good entry point.
