Tanya Hanlon: GONE TOO FAR

My background in art has always been the focal point of my collections as I love to communicate art into my clothes. I found through textiles I could do this most effectively. I always strive to manipulate fabric in interesting ways and utilise the fabric choices to create interesting silhouettes and textiles. To assist this passion, I love to conjure up concepts that challenge the way people conventionally think and educate people on different perspectives. My concept demonstrates how we've strayed too far, as the clothes we wear start outliving us. Fast fashion popularisation has taken over, resulting in unsustainable materials that are non-biodegradable. If you were buried in a garment, you'd decay before it, leaving behind a hollow, preserved outt molded to the shape of your body. I highlight this eerie reality by creating a collection that resembles fossilised fast fashion landlls. The textiles I have created display peaks of repurposed, defective and donated fast fashion clothes trapped under fabricated rocks. In the hope of targeting a chuck-out culture, this outt repurposes thrown-away fast fashion items into an artisanal piece that you hopefully cherish.
