I Only Mark The Hours That Shine

Jessica Storey is a London-born womenswear designer, previously having worked at Christopher Kane, Paula Canovas del Vas, Miss Sohee and Michaela Stark. Her work illustrates her obsession with narrative, innovative textiles, playful fabrication techniques and sensory textures. Storey’s design practice begins with intensive research into a specific conceptual muse, often combining historical personas with imaginative storytelling to produce deeply considered garments, layered with intricacy and character. She loves to work with a wide range of three-dimensional techniques, including laser cutting, 3D printing, casting, hand manipulation and creative embroidery. Her work aims to recontextualise both traditional and unconventional materials, such as tweed, organza, Tyvek and acrylic into contemporary garments which highlight her adoration for craft and sustainable practice. Her debut collection centres around Little Edie and questions what her life and costume would be like if she were living today. The textiles include abstract renditions of moth-eaten fabrics on deadstock material paired with printed jerseys and sweat shirting. The designs also draw inspiration from the Grey Gardens house through material exploration of hand and machine-distressing techniques. Circular laser-cut materials are reconstituted from two fabrics and bonded to become one, taking inspiration from the house’s renovation. The silhouettes take inspiration from Storey’s favourite visual era, the 1960s and Edie’s cousin, Jackie Kennedy Onassis.
