As a womenswear designer specialising in knit and creative cut I love the unplanned results of experimenting with generic garments and sampling on the stand to create innovative and powerful silhouettes which help inform my designs. Through this collection I embodyed a sense of opulence in my garments using satin and rich brocade fabrics along with beaded tassels and fringing, adding an element of playfulness just like the spirit of the cancan dance. Perceptions of women throughout history and themes of femininity also play an important part in my work. I experiment with historical undergarments such as corsets, playing around with their form to create silhouettes that empower the wearer while still paying homage to their intricate craftsmanship. I strongly believe that while fashion and art are becoming more digital, losing its element of tactility, it is important to revisit hand techniques which first gave clothes their charm and refer back to the past as much as we do the future.
