The BFC’s International design initiative, LONDON show ROOMS MEN, will this season take nineteen of London’s leading menswear design talents to the menswear shows in Paris to increase their media presence and develop their businesses internationally.
From 22 – 25th January LONDON show ROOMS MEN will this season showcase at JTM Gallery, Rue de Richelieu, 40, (Moliere’s resting place) in the 1st arrondissement of Paris, the same venue as the corresponding women’s event. The initiative, which saw its hugely successful launch last season at Tranoi Parc Royal, enables the menswear designers to sell their collections with the support of international marketing, media and sales advisers. Tim Blanks of Style.com and a member of the British Fashion Council's Menswear Committee will host an afternoon cocktail reception on the opening day to welcome media and buyers. (Saturday 22nd January from 4-6pm)
The support offered to emerging menswear designers by the BFC represents a growing interest in menswear in the UK and is a reflection of London’s quick response to identifying design potential. This season LONDON show ROOMS MEN represents its most diverse selection of British talent to date with a record nighteen designers showcasing. Returning to show are NEWGEN MEN recipients Christopher Raeburn, Fannie Schiavoni, James Long, Katie Eary, Lou Dalton and Omar Kashoura while other NEWGEN MEN designers Christopher Shannon and J.W.Anderson join the Paris showroom for the first time along with Matthew J Miller, Nasir Mazhar and Fashion Forward recipient Todd Lynn. They will be joined by this year’s British Fashion Awards Menswear Award winner, Patrick Grant, Creative Director of E Tautz. Junky Styling and Dr. Noki’s NHS will join previous participant Christopher Raeburn in the first dedicated Paris Estethica showcase, the British Fashion Council’s eco-sustainable initiative.
NEWGEN MEN, sponsored by Topman, was launched in September 2009 alongside a dedicated Menswear Day at London Fashion Week. Growing from ‘MAN’ a single show on the LFW schedule, these schemes, which offer business support and showcasing opportunities, have been instrumental in raising the profile of new British menswear designers. In a move which mirrors the initiatives that have supported womenswear designers over the past few seasons, LONDON show ROOMS MEN aims to build on the success of NEWGEN MEN, highlighting the growing talent of menswear designers in the UK to an international audience.
