Wedgwood Announce Project Tea Cosy

Wedgwood is excited to announce PROJECT TEA COSY, a creative initiative that forms part of its alliance with the British Fashion Council’s (BFC) millinery programme, BFC Headonism.

Wedgwood has invited each of the four Headonism milliners to create a contemporary, and unique tea cosy for a Wedgwood teapot. The designers visited the Wedgwood factory in Barlaston, Stoke on Trent, and were given privileged access to the Wedgwood pattern and china archives. Drawing inspiration from over 250 years’ heritage of craftsmanship and design, they have been asked to apply their own personal aesthetic and manufacturing approach to create a one-off tea cosy masterpiece.

Project Tea Cosy will be displayed within the Designer Showrooms at London Fashion Week from 12th – 16th September 2014.

BFC Headonism launched in 2009, during the BFC’s 25 year celebrations by Mayor of London, Boris Johnson and is curated by Stephen Jones OBE. The initiative offers mentoring by renowned milliner Stephen Jones and various showcasing opportunities with installations at London Fashion Week.

This year, milliners new to the Headonism showcase are Awon Golding and Lizzie McQuade who will be joining recipients Emma Yeo and Keely Hunter.

Sally Warmington, Marketing Director EMEA commented: ‘In inviting the Headonism Milliners to participate in Project Tea Cosy, we offer them the chance to explore the inspirational skills and craft of Wedgwood. We are looking forward to seeing them apply their own design flair and creative skill to a piece that embraces an iconic ceramic form: the Wedgwood Tea Pot. It’s a perfect fit: a tea cosy is to a tea pot what a hat is to a head!’
