The Traditional Family

Mihai Popescu is a Romanian born, London based, Fashion Textiles & Design graduate from Middlesex University. He specialises in menswear as well as woven & dyed textiles. When Mihai wondered what he could add to a field that was already oversaturated, he found inspiration in his Romanian roots, which helped to guide his creative process. His collection, titled ‘The Traditional Family’, not only brings together his queer identity & his heritage, but also highlights inequalities that the gay community faces in his birth country. A marriage between queer subcultures driven by sexual fetishism & the Romanian traditional dress & textiles. Recontextualising his own heritage by placing it alongside his experiences out in the London’s party scene.
