Considered design and attention to detail, to me, is what creates strong, successful design. My collection ‘Following Form’ aims to bridge the gap between fashion and product design, because, essentially in both cases you are designing a product fit for a purpose. My concept for my final collection developed naturally, with my attention focusing on chairs. I have always been intrigued by an object so simple yet so important and vital to human development. The ergonomics involved in both chair and fashion design are important to my values as a designer, as well as functionality being a necessity to create long lasting design. Studying the form and structure of unconventional chair design has been integral to my sampling process. Utilising deadstock leather, wool and denim demonstrates my conscious sustainable approach to design, whilst also aligning with fabrics often associated with the production of chairs, therefore emulating the durability of chair design.
