The idea of reducing modern-day overconsumption by satisfying the demand for more within one garment really motivated me. I also knew I wanted to shift the consumer's perception of the aesthetic that goes alongside multi-functional clothing as many people associated the concept with outdoor zip-off trousers. Fast forward to the end of my degree and I have completed two year-long projects focussed on achieving this objective and dedicated to producing multi-functional garments. I set out to integrate multi-functionality into luxury fashion as a means to address sustainability concerns. The process consists of extensive design development to optimise functionality in the various ways the garments could be worn. Building on the foundation of my third-year research, my final-year project addresses the following challenges: how can I hide all modular components from view when worn on the body and how can I utilise each component to have its own function so there are no ‘spare parts’?
