Chronic Shame

For my graduate collection, I was compelled to encapsulate my personal experience of the internal realm of chronic shame. Through innovative designs and intricate detailing, each garment serves as a vessel for expressing the psychological journey of confronting, grappling with, and ultimately transcending the weight of shame; inviting viewers to engage with the transformative power of self-acceptance and raw vulnerability. I have always been captivated by the idea of translating abstract concepts into wearable designs that connect deeply with people. My passion for innovative pattern cutting and unconventional tailoring, utilising Gerber and CLO3D technologies, drives this creative process. Inspired by introspection, fabric manipulation became essential in conveying these narratives, ‘seeing the inside out’. Not only to evoke emotional resonance but also to pay tribute to the artistry of craftsmanship. My family's farm life has deeply influenced my work, drawing parallels between the act of shearing animals for their fleece and the expression of shame. I directly used mohair & cashmere fibre from my own Angora & ‘Boegora’ goats, exploring traditional craft whilst advocating for sustainability, and the support of small localised businesses. Crafted from ethically sourced goat fibre and sustainable materials, executed in a conscious creative process, my collection aims to strengthen the relationship between farm, fibre and fashion.
