Paola Gomez Rendon

Location: London, UK
University/College: Middlesex University Specialisms: Fashion Design
Latin American youth culture is the foundation of Paola Gomez's work. The life of teens and young adults inspire the Mexican designer, where her own childhood as a part of music-based alternative subcultures is the main element that develop in her work, as a working class, small town background in Mexico mixed with her later European big city life have created a very specific mix of aesthetic references, design choices and consumer approach. Her own development of "DIY" techniques have taken her fashion design knowledge to develop more towards textile experimentation, conceptual shapes, textures and silhouettes, as her art background give her many more resources to implement into her practice, where every university project is composed of very specific handmade details like 3D textures, her very own print technique and appliqués. The Dirtiest Kind is Paola Gomez’s brand: created around alternative youth culture, teenage nostalgia and music as an armour against the world. Each garment comes straight from early and mid 2000s memories. It's bold and bright while also dark and edgy. It’s a brand made for and by the outsiders, those who aren’t afraid of making a statement and being vulnerable. The brand stands strong in graphics, unique details and contrast in colours and fabrics.
