Forgotten Toys is a unisex collection combining digital design techniques, conceptual pattern-cutting and custom textiles. It contrasts the creepiness and cuteness of abandoned toys from my attic, and playfully reflects the nostalgia of a bygone childhood. The collection is heavily influenced by Visual-kei, a Japanese movement and fashion style defined by shock and androgyny. It incorporates the movement’s ‘visual violence’ by destroying toys to create prints and finishes. Black-greys and bright yellows are used throughout to fuse eeriness and fun. Loose-fitting, kimono-like silhouettes are motivated by the idea that clothes should have no gender and that all identities can express an inner child, no matter the shock it may cause.
