Rebirthing Deconstruction

Nostalgia and family life is a big attribute to my designs. I am an unconventional designer who loves to push the boundaries in the materials used this leads my tribe being very confident out there people who want to make a statement as its not typically seen in your day to day life. In my final collection my concept was biased around the farm I grew up on and how it had a reconstruction when I was only 4/5, this really allowed me to open about my feeling of uncertainty at such a young age and sorrow as my life and home how I knew it got turned upside down unexpectedly, leading the collection to have a dark sombre aesthetic. The unconventional in me lead me down the path of what materials was used in the construction; nuts and bolts, cement, down to pipes representing the scaffolding the new farm stood upon, this gave me a foundation to make and design sculptural pieces to go on top of my collection, making a statement piece that flatters and empowers the female body. The farm was a working-class farm with only my grandad, uncle and dad working there, they were the only 3 people that did the reconstruction as they had the skills between them, this is where I get the craftmanship and inspiration to make all these sculptures myself as I was such a curious child when it came to making, I was always photographed with cement in my hands making a mess. While this was happening my grandmother was teaching me how to knit so I wanted knitwear to play a big part also in my final collection, as that is what I spent most my time doing when I was a child so I wanted to push myself with different types of knit that I’ve never done before experimenting with cable knit but still hand knit as I wanted to follow the roots I had as a child.
