From Daydreamer to Kitchen Cleaner

Growing up in Liverpool, surrounded by construction tools brought home by my dad and brother I discovered an unconventional garment fastening, nuts and bolts. These connectors fascinated me and once I begun integrating them within my designs they became an integral part of my design aesthetic. My creative journey revolves around fusing utilitarian practicality with ultra-feminine elegance. I see beauty in the tension between rugged functionality and delicate softness. I enjoy exploring technical fabrics and structured silhouettes, with soft ruffles and ultra-feminine details. I seek to strike a harmonious balance—a true reflection of my identity. For my final collection, I delved into the world of childhood toys and their impact on shaping future careers. Meccano, with its metal beams and interlocking parts, became my focal point. Originating in Liverpool, it held personal significance—my dad’s favourite toy from his own childhood. But beyond nostalgia, Meccano symbolised more profound themes. I questioned the stereotypes perpetuated by gendered toys—the miniature kitchens for girls and the construction sets for boys. Why limit a child’s imagination based on societal norms? My garments became a canvas for this exploration. Structured shapes made from resin and fabric holding ruffles from lightweight technical nylons by nuts and bolts and apron inspired shapes connected to boiler suits using nuts and bolts —subtle nods to breaking free from predefined roles. I aspire to work within the fashion industry, continuing to develop my skills.
