Human Resources (HR) are an essential department in all workplaces, fashion brands included. HR careers begin with administration and assistance, through to being HR directors or People Operations Managers.
HR covers all of the administration and support that is required when staff are employed by a business. This can begin with managing employee files and documentation (contracts, tax forms, holiday requests etc., through to conflict resolutions and performance reviews. Additionally it with be the HR person who is responsible for hiring new staff for their teams. They will use networking, online resources like LinkedIn, recruitment agencies to find candidates or especially in the fashion industry attend graduate and industry shows looking for new talent.
Key qualities needed for HR roles include organisation, excellent communication and confidentiality. HR teams will work across sensitive and confidential information that relates to people across the business so being discreet and approachable are very important. Also important is to remember that HR can be the first contact a potential employee can have with a company. So ability to represent the brand and culture is also essential.
