‘Rope and Ladders’ An exploration of my cultural identity.

As an experienced hand knitter, I’ve built my design and machine knitting skills on a strong foundation of stitch and fibre knowledge. Sustainability is built into the core of all my projects, focussing on British wool, local manufacture and designing with durability in mind. During a work placement year I designed and wrote a small collection of hand knitting patterns, helped develop a British wool yarn and produced a large number of swatches. In second year was chosen to represent the University at Spin Expo, Shanghai. In final year was awarded a bursary from the Worshipful Company of Framework Knitters, and shortlisted for the sustainability award at Fashanne. My final major project explores how traditional hand knitting skills could influence a more sustainable approach to knitwear design and production, I have also developed ways to re-purpose existing knitwear into new and exciting garments using methods inspired by traditional hand techniques.
