The World Without Us

Couture, tailoring and lingerie have always been key interests of mine. The modern disposable attitudes towards clothes, has led me to crave handmade: My brand preserves the traditional practices used within couture and tailoring, allowing for this skill to be passed down the generations. My collection ‘The World Without Us’ is based on the concept of omnicide - “the extinction of the human species as a result of human action”. David Attenborough’s 2020 documentary, ‘A Life on Our Planet’, gave a disturbing insight into the reality of what faces the future of humanity. My collection looks at the aftermath- when humans have completely disappeared. How has nature reclaimed the space? These are places where I draw inspiration, bringing them into my designs using colour, fabric and hand embroidery. Silhouette is drawn from the 1950’s, when it is believed that climate change began, looking at couture tailoring and silhouettes from the time like the ‘New Look’ by Christian Dior.
