Butter Sweet

‘delicious. bubbling. fat. tender. glistering’; are the key words selected from Angela Carter’s subversive fairy tales which were the initial inspiration for my collection. Based around my interpretation of the female experience by embracing the grotesque and naive things in everyday life in a matter of fact and almost glorified manner. I appreciate the more understated things in the everyday and find a sense of value yet irony within the mundane. Using a combination of photography, print and textile bonding techniques; transforming the commonly overlooked through a fairy-tale ‘retelling’, in relation to the underlying exploration and acceptance of female vulnerability and messiness.
