This past summer, I took my son to visit several aquariums where I photographed the vibrant coral habitats which provided protection, shelter, and a hiding place for the marine life. Within my research I have predominantly been looking at tunnels and voids created within these organic coral structures, alongside other animal dwellings and nests. My studio practice has been informed by responsible methods of design, particularly a variant method of zero-waste pattern cutting called subtraction cutting. This process involves connecting negative spaces and creating tunnel structures within the garment - creating unfamiliar and unusual results. My collection utilises this technique to create unfilled spaces and gaps within the oversized navy coats.
