Way to Freedom

My Name is Antonella Baafi, a graduate from Birmingham City University with a BA in Fashion Design. I was born in Italy and I’m originally from Ghana, I consider myself to be fortunate for both countries have a very rich and powerful culture, and this has a great impact on my designs. My project focuses on how Afro hair styles has an impact on the black community and also takes inspiration from the bright and colourful Ghanaian Kente cloth and Ghanaian Royalty. Whenever I design, my aim is to tell people about how beautiful and deep African, especially Ghanaian culture is, through a modern and futuristic way. My designs are characterised by bold and structured shapes, and also exploring textures and prints. My intention was to recreate Kente in a modern way, that is the reason way my collection has prints with popping colours and a feeling of weaving texture.
