Secure Base

Rio Aso is a Japanese designer who seeks innovative menswear design driven by her unique thought-process and experimentation in clothes making. Her collection is developed through her creative experimentation on pattern cutting, fashion print, and textile crafts, which results in invention and innovation of menswear silhouettes and fabrication. Leaving her hometown in countryside in Northern Japan to study fashion design in the UK, the memory of her home, family, and the sense of nostalgia are always important driving forces behind her creation. The major theme of her projects is to question how clothes can carry the memory of a person, relationships, moments, and spaces and provide the wearers with the sense of security. The personal narrative and primary source of inspiration are translated into contemporary menswear designs by her strong construction skills, eyes for colours, and experimental use of materials.
