My project takes inspiration from the detail of forms found in Catholic sculptures and paintings, with an emphasis on the way this is used to portray women- investigating the concepts of power and purity through experimentation with structure. I have focused on depicting fluid vestment-like-drapery within my initial hand sewn mannequin work, focusing on the female form, developing this by taking my reference points from nature to mirror the religious presentation of women. Aiming to reflect on this in a contemporary context through the dynamic pairing of softness and strength, construction and fluidity.
