We Live in a Society

Growing up in a family that runs a children’s toy shop I am very in touch with my childhood, not losing the reverie that is often hindered by reality’s limitations. My work is often a presentation of my paracosm, with escapism as a recurring theme. Fun and colours are vital part of my design process. My final collection, titled ‘We Live In A Society’ is a whimsical, sarcastic criticism on current expectations of conforming to societal norms in a world of unique individuals utilising the marriage of mythical creatures that are part of the culture I grew up with and modern mundane life. Each looks pays homage to certain occupations and individuals that we usually see on the streets every other day with a twist of monster-like features. It is to present that these ’monsters’ failingly concealed their ‘abnormality’ and I find beauty in that visible uniqueness.
