DESIRE

Edward Cox

Location: LONDON, UNITED KINGDOM
University/College: University of Westminster Specialisms: MENSWEAR
Born and raised in Worcester, England, for his debut collection Edward Cox references his cherished memories of youth. Cox draws inspiration from memories of listening to his father’s music during the long car journeys. By growing up in a military household, Cox became attracted to the simple/utilitarian identity that the uniform possesses. An initial examination of military uniforms influenced the designs to emphasise the purposeful intention garments possess. These early references and personal memories have become a core identity of his work. When approaching the ‘DESIRE’ collection Cox divulged the musical memories spent with his father, listening to his icons such as David Bowie and Bob Dylan who heavily influenced the collection’s silhouettes. Cox aims to extrapolate the effortless essence of cool that radiated from the photos of the past. The ‘DESIRE’ collection aims to change the wearer’s notions of their identity and their visual representation as a contemporary man. To Cox, fashion is ultimately about accessing and enjoying the feelings garments create. In the same way that certain songs and musicians can generate specific emotions, wearing specific garments can alter the wearers perception of masculinity and confidence.
