This collection, titled “The Sculptor’s Hands” pays tribute to the tradition of hand tailoring in Britain. Inspired by my Midlands roots and family ties to garment manufacturing, particularly my grandmother’s experience as a highly-skilled seamstress at a factory in Derby, specializing in the tailoring of overcoats and blazers. This project explores the artistry and precision of bespoke tailoring, celebrating the labour-intensive processes. Throughout this project, I drew inspiration from traditional hand-tailoring techniques like pad stitching and internal canvassing to sculpt the body. My goal was to bring these methods to the forefront of my design process. The silhouettes in this collection are structured and exaggerated, yet remain wearable, with a strong emphasis on using high-quality fabrics.
