My theme is inspired by maximalist, baroque styled art, conceptualised though a more modern eye. I have taken influence from a platter called ‘Apollo and the Muses’ found in the Wallace collection. I have created my own scene inspired by this and my father’s life in the navy. My collection consisted of outfits inspired by my scene to fit the characters, the Barmaid, the Sailor and the Band. ‘A Sailors Night’ the story of a lonely sailor, hasn’t been home for months, docking at another foreign port. After his usual routine of drinking until the bar shuts the sailor finds himself at the last open bar; an ancient derelict building, a place that looks like it has been abandoned for years, a place that a sober mind would never consider entering. He stumbles through the unhinged door to see only one working light, with a barmaid waiting beneath it. She greets him with a smile, suddenly the bar fills with light, a band begins to play, and art covers the walls. The drunken sailor feels like he is dreaming, like his is starring in an old romantic play, he can’t help but continually recite old ‘romantic poems’ inspired by the barmaid. Lost in his lust the band narrates the night through song as the sailor no longer has control of himself and watches the scene unfold in third person, until he slowly hits sobriety.
