Roots

In Sky Ladder, artist Cai Guo-Qiang build a firework art piece for his grandmother, as he knew her health was declining rapidly. In his words, he wanted to connect the unseen world with reality for her. The artwork has inspired me to build something unseen and forgotten for my present self. With Project Roots: Memory studies I focus on all the forgotten beauty around my grandmother’s house as my way to preserve all the forgotten and reconnect with my past. As I grow, I realised my past has slowly become blurry images that I could no longer remember. By piecing together all the silhouettes that I am exposed to in Malaysia and recreating lines, textured, colour around my grandmother’s house I hope to relive the days that have built me to be who I am.
