The Mascaraed

Ajanae Samuel was born in Boston, Massachusetts and raised in Letchworth, Hertfordshire, studying at the University of East London for her BA Hons in Fashion Design. Taking inspiration from everyday life, documentaries, the arts and culture Ajanae Samuel explores the relationship of the past and present, to promote the questioning of our perceptions of the world around us. Approaching design not only as a form of outward expression but as a tool for creating dialogue and discussion. Motivated by the idea of modernity and the love of newness she aspires to create for the inquisitive and experimental person, male or female. Of Montserratian descent, Ajanae Samuel examines the Western perspective, its patterns and movements. She is an iconoclast with a love of subversion and manipulation of the norm which can be seen in the experimental and fresh nature of her outcomes and patterns of work.
