Hi my name is Aliyah, a Final year fashion student at Birmingham City University. I have a major interest in print creation and illustration. My goal as a designer is to produce unique clothes for people who want to feel fierce and stand out of the crowd. As for designing, illustration is the main focus in my work along with print design, as drawing is my favourite and most confident skill. I have been drawing for as long as I can remember but I have found that studying at BCU, I have found my style and aesthetic as a designer. My initial ideas for this project came from the concept of being programmed by society. This is where I have researched into the idea of living up to your own expectations and celebrating our individuality. Using images of my childhood for part of my research, I’ve come up with interesting silhouettes that stem from a photograph of my brother wearing a shirwani. With this specific garment, I’ve created an ethnic & bohemian collection with a westernised element.
