My work is rooted through the connection between clothing and nature, and how these elements within clothing allow for the wearer to build a connection and to create memories whilst wearing the garments. Most of my inspiration comes from my own childhood and memories, which I have been able to explore more within my pre and final collection. Different elements such as the outdoors, swimming and Scottish heritage have been my key focus points, which I have adapted within my designs. One of my main focuses when it comes to design is circularity and sustainability. By using only natural and innovative materials within my collection, such as corozo buttons, cellulose threads and beeswax, I have been able to focus on how my garments are able to give back to the earth. As my main concern is how my garments would affect the planet, constructing them out of natural products, they are able to biodegrade at the end of their life cycle. For longevity, I have used ties and buttons for easier repair, instead of zips and elastane. My design direction would be to design garments in a slow and natural process that doesn’t harm the earth in the process, encouraging others to buy less and care more for their clothes.
